2 Ways to Send Uncompressed Images in WhatsApp on iPhone

Method 1 – Attach Image as Document

As the name suggests, this method involves uploading an image as a .doc file, instead of the default .jpeg (or .jpg) file format. For this, you need to open the image (you want to share on WhatsApp) in the Photos app and save it in the Files app. You can do this by hitting the share button (with the image selected) and selecting ‘Save to Files’ from the different options.

Next, you need to open the Documents app and navigate to the folder where you saved the image. Here, you need to hit the three dots next to the file and select ‘Rename’. Now, rename the image as per your convenience and change the file extension to .doc or .pdf.

Once done, you need to open WhatsApp and go to the chat you want to send the uncompressed image to, and from here, tap on the ‘plus’ sign and choose ‘Document’. Finally, navigate to the folder where you saved the image as a document file, select it, and hit ‘Send’.

Do note that his method also works if you save the image to the Files app and do not change the extension. As by saving the image to Files and uploading it by selecting the Document option, you are tricking WhatsApp into believing that the image you are trying to upload is a document.

Method 2 – Zip and Attach Image

The first method works fine if you are dealing with a handful of images. However, it becomes a tedious and long process when you have a large number of images you want to send across, uncompressed. To deal with this here’s an alternate method. For this method, you need to download the Documents app from the App Store. So, go ahead and download it from here.

By now, gauging by its name, you must have had an idea about what this method is all about. Unlike method 1, which involves changing an image file type, this method uses the power of ‘Zip’. For the uninitiated, ‘zip’ is an archive file format that supports ‘lossless data compression’ — a type of data compression algorithm that allows you to reconstruct the compressed data, back to its original state, without undergoing any loss of information.

In this method, you first need to open the Photos app and mark all the images you want to send uncompressed images over WhatsApp, press the ‘Share’ button, and select ‘Save to Files’ from the different options. Now, open the Documents app and go to the folder you saved all the images. Here, you need to hit the ‘Edit’ button on the top-right corner and select the images you imported from Photos.

That’s it!

Using the two methods mentioned above, you should now be able to send uncompressed, high-resolution images over WhatsApp on your iPhone.
