The Snapdragon 782G is the latest chipset from Qualcomm in its premium midrange segment, which the company unveiled recently. Qualcomm says that the new Snapdragon 782G is an update to their existing and well-known Snapdragon 778G Plus, found on numerous devices. Here’s how the Snapdragon 782G differs from the Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset.
As per Qualcomm, the upgraded Snapdragon 782G is 10% faster in GPU performance than the Snapdragon 778 Plus. The 782G also gets a marginal boost in CPU performance with a 5% enhancement over the 778 Plus.

Snapdragon 782G vs Snapdragon 778G Plus – Release Dates
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus was released in October 2021 as an incremental upgrade to the Snapdragon 778G. The chipset quickly got popular in midrange and premium midrange devices for its 5G capabilities and good performance at affordable prices.
The Snapdragon 782G was recently announced by Qualcomm, which is November of 2022. As of now, we are yet to witness devices with this chipset. But given the popularity of the Snapdragon 778G Plus since its release, we shall soon see devices featuring the new Snapdragon 782G.
Snapdragon 782G vs Snapdragon 778G Plus – CPU Performance
The Snapdragon 778G Plus comes in an octa-core configuration with Kryo 670 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz. The chipset is engineered on a 6nm fabrication.
The Snapdragon 782G uses the same octa-core configuration of Kryo 670 cores, but at a higher clock speed of 2.7 GHz. This increase in clock speed gives the Snapdragon 782G a 5% improvement in CPU performance when compared to the Snapdragon 778G Plus.
The Snapdragon 782G shares the same 6nm fabrication die as the Snapdragon 778G Plus.
Snapdragon 782G vs Snapdragon 778G Plus – GPU Performance
The Snapdragon 778G Plus features the Adreno 642L GPU, which is clocked at a frequency of 500 MHz. This combination allows the 778G Plus to run displays up to 144Hz at a Full HD resolution.
The Snapdragon 782G comes with the same Adreno 642L GPU, but Qualcomm has tuned it differently. The GPU on the Snapdragon 782G delivers 10% more GPU performance than the Snapdragon 778G Plus. However, Qualcomm has not yet shared the exact tuning changes in the GPU; hence the GPU frequency is not known at this moment.
Snapdragon 782G vs Snapdragon 778G Plus – Connectivity
The Snapdragon 782G and the Snapdragon 778G Plus share the same Qualcomm X53 5G modem. Both these chipsets are 5G enabled and have support for mmWave with a bandwidth of 400 MHz. Additionally, these two chipsets also support the sub-6 GHz band with a total bandwidth of 120 MHz. This enables both processors to have download speeds of up to 3.7 Gbps, with maximum upload speeds of up to 1.6 Gbps.
The two chipsets also have mutual features such as NFC, GPS, GLONASS, NavIC, Beidou, Galileo, and more. Connectivity-wise, both the Snapdragon 782G and Snapdragon 778G Plus are equally capable.
Snapdragon 782G vs Snapdragon 778G Plus – The Similarities
The Snapdragon 778G Plus and Snapdragon 782G have a lot of things in common, as the new 782G is an incremental upgrade to the 778G Plus. These chipsets have the same Spectra 570L ISP for image processing and have support for a maximum of three rear cameras. Slow-motion videos can be shot up to 240fps, but this feature will vary from device to device.
Both the Snapdragon 782G and Snapdragon 778G Plus can drive displays up to 144Hz at an FHD+ resolution. 4K displays are also supported but at a lower 60Hz refresh rate.
Snapdragon 782G vs Snapdragon 778G Plus – Verdict
The Snapdragon 782G is designed as a straight update to the Snapdragon 778G Plus. Hence, there are a lot of similarities between the two such as sharing the same Qualcomm X53 modem and Spectra 570L ISP. However, the Snapdragon 782G is clocked at a higher frequency of 2.7 GHz as compared to 2.5 GHz on the Snapdragon 778G Plus. This gives the Snapdragon 782G a 5% increase in CPU performance and a 10% improvement in GPU performance when compared directly with the Snapdragon 778G Plus.
One can argue that the Snapdragon 782G is an aged processor from early 2021, which Qualcomm is simply repackaging at a higher clock speed. This is factually correct because the Snapdragon 782G indeed uses the same silicon as the Snapdragon 778G (Not 778G Plus, but the earlier 778G). So the Snapdragon 782G is not a completely new chipset, then why should one even be interested in the Snapdragon 782G?
Given the track record of Qualcomm, where they have used the same silicon to develop a new chipset, like in the case of Snapdragon 860 and Snapdragon 870, the results have been really good. These repolished chipsets did have incremental performance upgrades, and since the fabrication had aged a while, the cost of these chips was slightly lower as well. Hence, there is a good possibility that we may witness devices that are more affordable while carrying all the positives from the current Snapdragon 778G Plus.
